How To Make Kung Pao Shrimp Dish

The dish “Kung Pao Shrimp” is a popular Chinese dish with a spicy and slightly sweet flavor. It is easy to make and is a common dish on the menus of Chinese restaurants all over the world. Today, we will learn how to make Kung Pao Shrimp at home.


  • 500g fresh shrimp
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup tofu or green beans (optional)
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped purple onion
  • 1/2 cup small dried chili peppers
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons white wine
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 tablespoon tapioca starch
  • 1/2 tablespoon black peppercorns
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon roasted cashews


  1. Clean the shrimp, remove the heads, legs, scales, and intestines. Place the shrimp in a bowl and mix with 1 tablespoon of white wine, 1/2 tablespoon of cornstarch, 1/2 tablespoon of salt, and 1/2 tablespoon of black peppercorns. Let the shrimp marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. Place the tofu or green beans in boiling water for 3 minutes, then remove and drain.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a pan, add the shrimp and fry until golden brown, then remove and drain the oil.
  4. Heat a little vegetable oil in another pan, add the chopped purple onion and stir-fry until fragrant.
  5. Add the tofu or green beans to the pan with the purple onion.
  6. Add the small dried chili peppers to the pan and stir-fry.
  7. Add the fried shrimp to the pan and stir-fry with the other ingredients.
  8. Mix together the sugar, soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of white wine, 2 tablespoons of vinegar, 1/2 tablespoon of tapioca starch, and 1/4 cup of water.
  9. Pour the sauce into the pan with the other ingredients and stir-fry for a few minutes.
  10. Add the roasted cashews and stir-fry for another minute.
  11. Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Kung Pao Shrimp!
